Why Bad Career Habits Are Hard To Break
Bad career habits are difficult to overcome because, as humans, we crave comfort, consistency, and predictability. Meaning, change is hard!
When you decide to change a habit, the largest hurdle you’ll face is your mindset. Your mindset will dictate your success because it’s much easier to revert to old habits than it is to push yourself outside your comfort zone.
Because your comfort zone always feels better than your change zone, it’s important that you establish a mindset of continual progress to force a new habit.
Focusing On Your New Habit Change
When you’re focused on changing a habit, your stress level may increase. You’ll likely feel out of control at times and you’ll experience feelings of doubt. Your mind is a powerful tool, it will both help and hurt you as you work to change bad habits. Therefore, it’s important that you understand what triggers cause your mind to move towards self-doubt.
By paying close attention to your feelings, you’ll begin to notice triggers which cause stress. These triggers are controllable, once you understand the root cause.
Controlling your triggers is key to successfully embracing a new habit. Once you pinpoint personal triggers, it’s easier to stop self-doubt before it stalls your progress.
Tools To Push Failure Out Of Your Mind
When you understand the triggers that drive your mindset towards failure versus success, establishing guardrails to keep you focused on your new habit is much easier. Utilizing simple tools like exercise, mentoring and even “me time”. Will greatly impact your ability to successfully make a change and form a new habit.
